Advanced Training Course
Harpsichord
Course aims
• To introduce students to period-instrument performance practice, developing a sense of beauty and a feeling for phrasing within the different styles.
• To encourage a taste for beauty of sound and for improvisation, taking the unmeasured prelude as a starting point.
• To organise thematic sessions, including visiting teachers of international standing in early-music performance practice.
• To involve students in concerts and events, exploring the relationship between the musician and the listening audience.
• To prepare students for further study and for professional life.
Methods
• Individual lessons in the principal subjects.
• Listening to and analysing the pieces chosen for the study programme.
• Open lessons in which students take an active part: “How a lecture-recital is built” (organising the material on organology, periods and styles, as well as the stories behind the pieces and their composers).
• Regular public concerts and lecture-recitals, so that students can test their work in front of an audience.
The advanced training courses are aimed at Italian and international students who wish to build on skills already acquired elsewhere.
Aims and methods are agreed case by case, according to each student’s needs.
