Advanced Training Course
Classical and jazz saxophone
Teacher Stefano Di Battista
Saxophone
By the end of the three-year academic diploma in jazz saxophone, students are expected to have acquired the technical knowledge and specific skills needed to realise their own artistic ideas.
These aims are also pursued by developing aural perception and memory, and by acquiring specific knowledge of the organisational, compositional and analytical models of music and how they interact.
Study programme
• Modal, tonal and free improvisation.
• Jazz articulation and sound.
• The approach to performing in different line-ups (trio, quartet, quintet).
• Developing compositional creativity applied to improvisation.
• Stage presence and performance.
• Scale study specific to the saxophone, across its full range of possibilities.
• Preparation of a full concert drawn from the repertoire of the great masters (Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and others), with an original piece to be performed at the annual final examination.
The advanced training courses are aimed at Italian and international students who wish to build on skills already acquired elsewhere.
Aims and methods are agreed case by case, according to each student’s needs.
