Avitabile Enzo
“He grew up in the Marianella district of Naples, studying the saxophone and performing in public from the age of seven.”

He went on to take a diploma in flute at the San Pietro a Majella Conservatoire. Avitabile plays in a range of genres, from world music to jazz fusion. In shaping his music, the singer-songwriter appears untouched by commercial logic.

Over the course of his career he has worked with artists such as James Brown and Tina Turner, and has jammed on stage at Umbria Jazz with Maceo Parker. In 2016 he was special guest on the Italian dates of bassist Marcus Miller’s international tour.

Biography
In 1979 he played on the second, self-titled

album by Pino Daniele

. In 1980 he took part in Pino Daniele’s album “Nero a metà”, singing backing vocals on “A me me piace ’o blues”, and in the same year played baritone and tenor saxophone on “Sono solo canzonette” by

In 1982 he released his first record, Avitabile, nine tracks already marked by the artist’s black music drive, among them a dedication to his late friend Mario Musella (Dolce sweet “M”), made with. Nel 1980 partecipa all’album “Nero a metà” dello stesso Pino Daniele, come corista nel brano “A me me piace ‘o blues” e, sempre nello stesso anno, suona il sassofono baritono e tenore in “Sono solo canzonette” di . The following year came “Meglio soul”, with songs such as “Charlie”, a reference to Charlie Parker, “Gospel mio”, sung with Richie Havens, and “When I believe”, widely played on Italian radio. A year later he made “Correre in fretta”, dedicated to his daughter Connie. 1986 saw the release of one of his best-known records,. Nel 1982 esce il suo primo lavoro discografico, Avitabile, composto da nove brani nei quali è già presente la carica black dell’artista, e tra i quali figura una dedica all’amico scomparso Mario Musella (Dolce sweet “M”), realizzato in collaborazione con , which contains the celebrated “Soul Express” and “Black Out”, whose remix won a prize in Ibiza asdance track of the year ; also notable is “Mamma Che Caos” (also released as a remix).

1990 brought “Stella dissidente”, with cover art by Milo Manara. The following year Enzo Avitabile made a self-titled album alongside Corrado Rustici. It contains a single song in Neapolitan, “Vide c’o’ tengo”, as if to point up the limits imposed on him by the label, which on that occasion also made him change his look. In 1994 came Easy, setting Totò’s “’A livella” to music and featuring a duet with Randy Crawford, “Leave me or love me”. EMI then labelled him an “unmanageable artist” for refusing to take part in the Sanremo Festival. That same year he appeared at the Pistoia Blues Festival. In 1995 he wrote the music for “E c’è ancora mare”, sung by Giorgia and included on her album “Come Thelma & Louise”. A closer interest in rap and jungle and a return to Neapolitan lyrics led in 1996 to “Addò”.

Nel 1994 esce Easy dove mette in musica “‘A livella” di Totò e canta in duetto con Randy Crawford “Leave me or love me”.
