Kyung Mi Lee

She took her cello diploma in 2002 with top marks and distinction under Francesco Strano at the Santa Cecilia Conservatoire in Rome.

She went on to graduate with top marks from the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia” and also received the diploma of merit of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana for the course given by Alain Meunier.

Successivamente si è diplomata con il massimo dei voti presso l’”Accademia Nazionale di S. Cecilia” e ha ricevuto inoltre il diploma di merito “Accademia Filarmonica Romana” in occasione del corso tenuto da Alain Meunier.

She has taken masterclasses with Enrico Dindo, Enrico Bronzi and Ferenc Szűcs.

For chamber music she studied at the

“Scuola Superiore Internazionale di Musica da Camera del Trio di Trieste”

with Dario De Rosa, Renato Zanettovich, Maureen Jones and Enrico Bronzi, from whom she received the

diploma of merit . In 2002 she won first prize at the “Stravinsky” National Competition , first prize at the“Anemos” International Competition , absolute first prize at the European competition“MusicAtri” and second prize at the“Luigi Nono” Competition . She has taken part in the International Festival of Young Musicians in Athens, in Tallinn (Estonia) in 2004 and in the Irish World Music festival in Limerick. She played as principal cello of the World Youth Orchestra , with which she also appeared as a soloist under Damiano Giuranna and William Eddins. In 2002 she was invited to perform alongsideMstislav Rostropovich at the celebrations for Michelangelo Antonioni’s ninetieth birthday at the Parco della Musica., con la quale si è esibita anche in veste di solista diretta da Damiano Giuranna e William Eddins, direttore stabile della Chicago Symphony Orchestra. el 2002 è stata invitata ad esibirsi al fianco di M. Rostropovich in occasione della celebrazione per il novantesimo compleanno di M. Antonioni tenutasi al Parco della Musica.

From 2003 to 2007 she was a member of the

Trio di Rome

, with which she played at the

Damascus Opera House (Syria) and in 2007 performed Beethoven’sTriple Concerto for violin, cello, piano and orchestra. At the instigation of the Italian National Music Committee (CIDIM), in May 2007 she formed the Fortuna Trio with the violinist Markus Placci and the pianist Michelangelo Carbonara, launched under the guidance of Emanuel Ax during the chamber music courses of the Académie Musicale de Villecroze . With this ensemble she made a tour of South America(September 2008), followed by a second tour of Italian venues in 2010. In March 2009 the Fortuna Triorecorded a CD (Brahms and Schubert) in the studio for Nascor (Harmonia Mundi) in France. in studio per la Nascor (Harmonia Mundi) in France.

As a soloist she has recorded for LeadRecords Vivaldi’s Concerto in C minor for cello, strings and harpsichord and Vivaldi’s Four Seasons with the soloist Roberto Ranfaldi, leader of the

. She has recorded, as a soloist and in chamber groups, music by Paolo Vivaldi and Leandro Piccioni for

RAI 1 drama series, and as a member of theQuartetto Pessoa she has recorded music by Dimitri Nicolau and Astor Piazzolla . She was invited as special solo guest on the soundtrack of “The Truth About Angels” , an independent Hollywood film with music by Enrico Sabena.. È stata invitata come ‘special solo guest’ nella colonna sonora di “The truth about angels”, film indipendente di Hollywood con le musiche di Enrico Sabena.

She takes part in recordings of film music and in live concerts by Ennio Morricone, Nicola Piovani, Luis Bacalov and others.
