I took my conservatoire diploma in piano in 1995 and, after a degree in humanities (1999), a doctorate in “History and analysis of musical cultures” at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” (2004) under Professor Pierluigi Petrobelli.

on the critical edition of the works of Gioachino Rossini, and I am now managing editor of the series of critical editions Works of Gioachino Rossini that he founded, published by Bärenreiter of Kassel, for which I have also edited the volumesChamber Music without Piano (2007, with Martina Grempler) and Vocal Chamber Music (with Philip Gossett). In 2013 I also prepared for Bärenreiter the critical edition of Niccolò Paganini’s 24 Caprices Op. 1 and of the 24 previously unpublished English Contredanses. An essay on the reception of the 24 Caprices is forthcoming in the catalogue of the exhibition Paganini Rockstar (Genoa, Palazzo Ducale Fondazione per la Cultura, 19 October 2018 – 10 March 2019), edited by Roberto Grisley, Raffaele Mellace and Ivano Fossati, published by Silvana Editoriale. (entro il 2018; insieme a Philip Gossett). Nel 2013, per Bärenreiter ho realizzato anche l’edizione critica dei 24 Capricci op. 1 e delle 24 Contradanze inglesi (inedite) di Niccolò Paganini. Center for Italian Opera Studies at the same university, where I directed the OperaCat project, which created a database of information on operatic autographs sold on the antiquarian market from 1840 to the present. Among the essays I have written on the subject, “Autographs, Memorabilia, and the Aesthetics of Collecting” was published in the Oxford Handbook of Opera (edited by Helen M. Greenwald, Oxford University Press, 2014). For OperaCat I received, in 2008–2009, the “John M. Ward Fellowship in Dance and Music for the Theatre” at Harvard University(Cambridge, Massachusetts). As a research fellow at the Department of Musicology and Cultural Heritage of the University of Pavia/Cremona, in 2012–2013 I took part in the PRIN 2009 project “Critical editions of Italian composers and Italian works from the mid-seventeenth to the early twentieth century”, directed by Fabrizio Della Seta. The findings of my research on Bellini’s reception in London were set out in two essays (“Dal Pirata ai Puritani: la recezione critica di Bellini a Londra (maggio-ottobre 1830-1835)” and “I Puritani a Londra: rassegna stampa (maggio–ottobre 1835)”, written with Alice Bellini) published in the first issue of the «Bollettino di studi belliniani» , the journal of the Centro di documentazione per gli studi belliniani and the Fondazione Bellini of Catania. For the «Bollettino» I edit the section devoted to updating the Bellini bibliography. I have taken part in various national and international conferencesand written essays, articles and reviews for various books and journals, entries for dictionaries and encyclopaedias (“Dizionario Biografico degli Italiani”, Treccani; “Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart” [MGG], Bärenreiter and Metzler; “The Cambridge Verdi Encyclopedia”, edited by Roberta Montemorra Marvin) and programme notes for various organisations (BBC Proms, London; IUC, Rome; I Solisti Aquilani, L’Aquila; Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma e del Lazio).
