E' attivo in particolar modo nel jazz contemporaneo jazz e nella musica contemporanea. Ha registrato quattro dischi a New York di cui tre come leader con alcuni dei più importanti musicisti della scena mondiale come Donny Mc Caslin, Scott Colley, Antonio Sanchez, Mark Turner, Dan Weiss, Tyshawn Sorey, John Escreet, Joe Sanders e si è esibito in alcuni dei più importanti club e festival internazionali come lo Small’s e lo Shapeshifter Lab a New York, La Casa del Jazz a Rome, il Blue Note a Milan, il Summer Jazz Days a Warsaw e l’Italian Jazz Days di New York.
four stars by Downbeat.On the contemporary music scene Luca is a member of one of the most important European ensembles, the Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble(PMCE), resident ensemble of the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome. With the ensemble — whose members include soloists such as Manuel Zurria, Antonio Caggiano, Paolo Ravaglia, Maurizio Giammarco, Gianluca Ruggeri and Fabio Bagnoli, conducted by Tonino Battista — Luca has played as
first guitar in some of the most important works of the contemporary repertoire , among them Frank Zappa’s Yellow Shark (produced by Gail Zappa, conducted by Jonathan Stockhammer), Steve Reich’s 2x5 (world premiere), Jacob TV’s The News and Rhys Chatham’s Secret Rose (European premieres), Michele Tadini’s K_446 (world premiere), and music by Fausto Romitelli, Louis Andriessen, Arvo Pärt, Kurt Weill (alongside Ute Lemper) and Martha Colburn, both at the Auditorium in Rome and at other important venues such as the MAXXI, the American Academy, the “Teatro Petruzzelli” in Bari, the Biennale Musica, Ravenna Festival, the New Music Festival in Macerata, the Villa Adriana Festival and the Teatro dell’Opera in Rome. He has also worked with the Alter Ego ensemble . His solo programme, first performed at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in Rome as part of the “.in my Life” series, has been repeated several times at Italian Cultural Institutes including New York, Brussels and Chicago (DePaul University). For Rome’s New Year 2020 he performed as soloist with the PMCE in the world premiere of “Rainbow Bridge”, composed by Mark Grey and dedicated to Luca himself — a piece for an orchestra of guitars, electric basses and drums — before some 10,000 people. The concert was produced by the City of Rome and Musica per Rome. He appeared as soloist alongside Bryce Dessner with the PMCE conducted by Tonino Battista in the Italian premiere of St. Carolyn by the Sea at the Sala Sinopoli of the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” for the Romaeuropa Festival 2020; the work, previously released by Deutsche Grammophon, features Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood on guitar. He also gave the world premiere of “it mooned” by Michele Tadini for Rome’s New Year.
His most recent album, recorded in New York with, among others, Donny McCaslin, musical director of David Bowie’s last album, received four stars from the American magazine Downbeat.

He has composed and performed incidental music for various theatre productions: Sulla riva di un lago (2018), an adaptation of Chekhov’s The Seagull, directed by Luigi Syracuse, Silvio d’Amico Academy of Dramatic Arts, Spoleto Festival; Six Characters in Search of an Author (2020) by Luigi Pirandello, directed by Luigi Syracuse, Silvio d’Amico Academy; Of Mice and Men (2021) by John Steinbeck, directed by Luigi Syracuse, Silvio d’Amico Academy, Spoleto Festival; Vaudeville! (2020) by Roberto Rustioni and Chiara Boscaro, directed by Roberto Rustioni, Naples Teatro Festival, Teatro India, Teatro Franco Parenti.
His music and concerts have been broadcast several times by Rai Radio Tre. He arranges and composes rock pieces by Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden and the White Stripes for a guitar ensemble at the “Teatro Massimo” in Palermo.
He has taught rock, pop and jazz since 2000 at the Percentomusica academy, of which he is a founding partner with Massimo Moriconi, Fabio Zeppetella and Umberto Fiorentino, coordinating courses whose teachers include Maurizio Dei Lazzaretti, Mario Guarini and many others. His former students include many young musicians who now play with some of Italy’s leading pop artists, such as Mannarino and Marco Mengoni.
He composed the music for the documentary “SILENCIO”, on the links between the Mexican narcos and the ’ndrangheta, by Attilio Bolzoni and Massimo Cappello, with Lucio Perotti, featuring Diego Osorno, Anabel Hernández and Don Luigi Ciotti among others. After its presentation at the “Auditorium Parco della Musica” in the presence of the President of the Senate, Pietro Grasso, the film was released on Repubblica TV, where within a few days it averaged more than 300,000 views; it came out to coincide with the anniversary of the massacre of the 43 students in Iguala. It was later also presented at the “Teatro Massimo” in Palermo.

He devised and coordinated the project Young Musicians Play Europe, funded by the European Community’s Culture Programme, within which he directed the Warsaw Summer Jazz Days in Poland and the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
He is artistic director of the NOGO FESTIVAL, a contemporary music festival held at the former Cartiera Latina in Rome under the patronage of the Lazio Region, which has hosted several world and European premieres (Riccardo Nova, Elliot Cole, Paolo Marchettini) and guests of international standing such as Glen Velez (four Grammys) and Lorie Cotler.
He edited the book L’esperienza musicale: per una fenomenologia dei suoni (Manifestolibri, 2002), with contributions from some of the most important international philosophers and scholars, writing an essay on the relationship between Wittgenstein and music. He wrote the column Rolling Notes for Alitalia’s magazine Ulisse, and currently writes on contemporary music for the website The Carousel.
E’ stato ideatore e project coordinator del progetto Young Musician Play Europe, finanziato dal Programma Cultura della Comunità Europea, nel quale ha diretto il Warsaw Summer Jazz Dyas in Poland e il Conservatorio Reale dell’Aja.
