After his classical secondary schooling he took his piano diploma at the Turin Conservatoire and a degree in humanities with a music history specialisation at the University of Turin, with a dissertation on the piano nocturne.

A teacher of music history
at the conservatoires of Ferrara (1981), Turin (1982) and Pesaro (Fermo, 1989–93), since 1993 he has held that chair at the Turin Conservatoire. From 1978 to 1984 he taught principal piano at theCooperativa Musicale di Collegno , founded by players of the RAI National Symphony Orchestra in Turin. From 1984 to 2010 he taught piano on the music training courses of the City of Turin . From 2002 to 2007 he taught piano at the Corelli Municipal Music Institute in Pinerolo. Since 2010 he has taught piano at the Città di Rivoli Music Institute. In 2004 he was appointed artistic director of the Scuola di Pianoforte di Torino , founded by Maria Gachet. Since that year he has regularly taught advanced piano courses in Baia Domizia (Caserta) each July, organised by the Scuola di Pianoforte di Torino. He has given courses and seminars on the“Piano technique of the Neapolitan school” for the Suzuki courses in Ivrea, at the University of California (UCLA) and at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In 1986 he published with Allemandi the volume “Organi Storici in Torino” “Tecnica Pianistica della Scuola Napoletana” per i corsi Suzuki a Ivrea, presso l’Università di California (UCLA) e al San Francisco Conservatory of Music. Nel 1986 ha pubblicato per l’Editore Allemandi il volume “Organi Storici in Torino”.
Theory of Music for its encyclopaedic dictionary and, for the DEUMM, more than 200 entries on American composers and performers . He has sat on the selection panels for the piano class of the Advanced Music School in Saluzzo and on the jury of the Città di Cantù International Competition for Piano and Orchestra. Since 1994 he has been music critic (with a particular focus on the piano) of theCORRIERE DELLA SERA , for which he has written more than 300 articles. In 2002 he was a contributor and author of the music entries in the encyclopaedia published by the newspaper LA REPUBBLICA voci musicali dell’Enciclopedia pubblicata dal quotidiano LA REPUBBLICA.
Rai3 , composing and performing soundtracks for several programmes (Il Pianeta delle Meraviglie). In 2002 part of the concert he gave at the Philadelphia Westin (27 October 2002) was broadcast by RAI3 (29 December 2002). In 2003 Paolo Tarallo was included in the“Grande Enciclopedia di Torino” (p. 640) compiled by Massimo Centini for Newton & Compton Editori. Since 2008 he has worked with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a member of the Italy-China study commission , as music expert for the Chinese university and academic sector. Since 2010 he has been responsible, on behalf of the Turin Conservatoire , for the pre-selection in China of students enrolled on the Turandot programme . In 2011 and 2012 he taught advanced piano courses in Beijing. della preselezione in territorio cinese degli studenti iscritti al progetto Turandot.
