Valencia Reinel María
The trumpeter María Valencia is a product of El Sistema in Venezuela.

Born in Ecuador, after studying in her home city of Guayaquil she moved first to the capital, Quito, where she joined the National Youth Symphony Orchestra, and then, through a cultural exchange, to Caracas, where she studied with Gaudy Sánchez Moreno, principal trumpet of the celebrated Simón Bolívar orchestra, and joined the ensembles of El Sistema: the Simón Bolívar Symphonic Band and the Simón Bolívar Orchestra.


Nata in Ecuador, dopo gli studi nella sua città, Guayaquil, si trasferisce dapprima a Quito, la capitale, dove entra a far parte dell’Orchestra Sinfonica Giovanile nazionale, per poi trasferirsi, grazie a un sistema di scambio culturale, a Caracas dove studia sotto la guida di Gaudy Sánchez Moreno, prima tromba della celebre orchestra Simón Bolívar ed entra a far parte dei complessi orchestrali del Sistema, quali: la Banda Sinfonica Simón Bolívar e l’orchestra Simón Bolívar.

She has also worked as a

teacher

in several El Sistema centres in

Maracay and San Juan de los Morros . While studying at the Latin American Trumpet Academy in Caracas she took part in numerous masterclasses , notably with Max Sommerhalder, Francisco Flores, Fernando Ciancio, Luis González and the Canadian Brass. In 2012 she moved to Europe, first to Amsterdam, where she studied at theConservatorium van Amsterdam with Wim Van Hasselt and Giuliano Sommerhalder, principal trumpet of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The following year she moved to Milan, where she took her two-year trumpet degree at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatoire. In the same period she attended the annual trumpet course given by Andrea Lucchi, principal trumpet of the “Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia”. In 2012 she took part in the masterclass given byJames Thompson at the Hamamatsu Wind Instrument Academy in Hamamatsu, Japan . She has also taken part in the international Macau Band Fair in China, playing with the Macao Wind Symphony. In 2014 she joined the Orchestra 1813 of Como (AS.LI.CO.), with which she still plays. She also works with the Orchestra Sinfonica “Giuseppe Verdi” and the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano I Pomeriggi Musicali; with the latter she toured Oman in 2015 in the production of the musical “Ibn Battuta” at the Royal Opera House Muscat . In 2014 she appeared in Florida as a soloist with orchestra, sharing the platform in Vivaldi’s concerto for two trumpets with the internationally known trumpeterGiuliano Sommerhalder . Since 2015 she has taught trumpet on the evening courses (CPSM) at the “Giuseppe Verdi” Conservatoire in Milan.. Nel 2014 si esibisce in Florida, U.S.A. come solista con orchestra e condividendo il palcoscenico nel concerto per due trombe di A. Vivaldi con il trombettista di fama internazionale Giuliano Sommerhalder. Dal 2015 è docente di tromba dei Corsi Popolari Serali “CPSM”presso il Conservatorio “Giuseppe Verdi” di Milano.

In 2019 she took part in the second
“Girolamo Fantini” International Trumpet Competition
in Rome, founded by the renowned trumpeter Giuliano Sommerhalder. There she had the chance to share experience with

Tamás Velenczei (principal trumpet of the Berliner Philharmoniker), Marc Geujon (principal trumpet of the Paris Opera), Omar Tomasoni (principal trumpet of the Concertgebouw Orchestra), Tine Thing Helseth (international soloist) and Friedemann Immer (professor of Baroque trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam). She is currently a member of the teaching staff of AIMART – International Academy of Music and Arts in Rome, where she works on developing programmes for young players . In July 2019 she made her debut at the world’s foremost trumpet conference, the International Trumpet Guild (ITG) Conference in Miami (USA) . During that stay in the United States she appeared for the second time as a soloist with thePinellas Park String Orchestra (Florida) and took part in musical events at the museums of St Petersburg, Florida. Also in 2019 she was invited for the first time to give a masterclass at theUniversidad de las Artes in her home city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. e collabora in alcuni eventi musicali nei musei di St. Petersburg (Florida). Sempre nel 2019, viene infine invitata per prima volta a dare una masterclass presso la Universidad de las Artes de la sua città natale Guayaquil (Ecuador).

In 2019 she took her second second-level degree, in Baroque trumpet, at the Milan Conservatoire with Jonathan Pia.
Drawing on her experience teaching trumpet and ensemble playing at the Ricordi Music School, María Valencia has created her own method for teaching the trumpet to children, “Trombalandia Trumpet Studio”, sharing experience, lessons and advice on social media with considerable impact worldwide among those who follow trumpet and brass teaching.

Nel 2019 consegue la sua seconda laurea di secondo livello in tromba barocca presso il Conservatorio di Milano sotto la guida del Maestro Jonathan Pìa.

Frutto della sua esperienza quale insegnante di tromba e di musica d’insieme presso la Ricordi Music School, María Valencia ha creato il suo proprio metodo per insegnare la tromba ai bambini, “Trombalandia Trumpet Studio”, diffondendo le esperienze, lezioni e consigli anche sui social media e suscitando un notevole impatto, a livello mondiale, fra le tante persone che seguono l’insegnamento della tromba e degli ottoni.
