Double bass course

Double bass

The pre-academic courses are aimed at children, young people and adults who wish to begin studying music. They provide training, organised into levels of competence and periods of study, that prepares students for admission to the three-year academic courses of Italian higher arts and music education (AFAM) or to a three-year degree in Dams – music pathway.

The programme

The course is organised in three levels:

Entrance examination (students coming from the foundation pre-academic courses of any instrument)
Performance subjects:
• Performance of a piano piece chosen by the candidate.

Theory, analysis and practice subjects:
• Sight-reading chosen by the panel.
• Rhythmic and melodic dictation.
• Harmonisation of a given bass.

Intermediate level – final examination
Performance subjects:
• Final project: an original composition for ensemble.

Theory, analysis and practice subjects:
• Submission of a written music-analysis assignment.
• Composition on a theme set by the panel.

Advanced level – final examination

Performance subjects:
• Final project: a score for classical orchestra.
• Final project: an original composition for ensemble.

Theory, analysis and practice subjects:
• Submission of a written music-analysis assignment.

Musicology subjects:
• Submission of a written music-history assignment.

At every level, alongside the principal subject (main instrument, composition or voice), the course includes the foundation studies. The length of each level varies according to the course (instrument, voice or composition) chosen by the student.

Where a student shows outstanding artistic ability, each level may be shortened to a minimum of one year. Any such shortening must be proposed by the teacher and authorised by the Director of the AIMART Music Department.

Structure and attendance

The pre-academic courses comprise:
a – individual lessons (1 lesson per week)
b – group workshop lessons (1 lesson per week)
c – group theory and practice lessons (1 lesson per week)

Attendance is compulsory as set out in the study plan for each instrument. Lessons run from October to September. Examinations for enrolled students are scheduled in June, July and September.

A detailed calendar showing the lesson days is given to each student at the start of every year.

How to apply

On set days during May, Aimart gives prospective students the opportunity to attend trial lessons followed by a guidance interview. Applications must be sent by email to info@aimart.it, stating the course of study and the level applied for. The entrance examinations are held in September and October. Students applying for the intermediate or advanced level must sit a specific entrance examination assessing the preparation required by the previous levels.
